About KayJay
If you’re reading this you might not know who ‘KayJay’ is. Well she’s an eight year old girl who is already a dedicated figure skater. She started lessons in early 2005 so she’s been skating in total just three years.
At the time of writing she’s entered only three skating competitions but came Fourth in the first, and First in the other two. She works hard training constantly with no pressure from her parents. In fact we try to slow her down else she’d be on the ice 24/7.

Currently she skates figure skating sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 5:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. She skates Monday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (which includes an hour off-ice exercise). The only ‘General Session’ she attends is one of Friday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. where she meets friends and messes about. Basically, she is training seriously for up to 14 hours a week with an extra 2 hours for ‘play’.
Whether she has ‘ability’ is hard to judge. She has coaching sessions three times a week and her coach seems confident she has a future in skating. What that future is will be mutable until she is able to reach some of the ‘higher’ levels. If she gets to some of those then her potential will be easier to assess.
For me (her Dad) to judge is impossible. I know next to nothing about skating right now, but it looks as though I’m going to have to learn… and quickly! ![]()
